My name is Emily Meuret and I am a senior at Frisco High School. I am currently enrolled in the Independent Study and Mentorship program (ISM), where I plan to receive guidance from a mentor in the field of pediatric oncology. I am in the ISM program to expand my future career as a nurse and to gain knowledge beyond a textbook through hands on experience.

 

     My goal for ISM is to determine if I have a passion for pediatric oncology and want to make this my career. I am purposefully driven to learn more about the world of cancer and studies to cure cancer. I also hope to be taught fundamental procedures on the oncology floor of the hospital.

     

     Outside of ISM I am involved in my church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), National Charity League (NCL), Best Buddies, golf, basketball, and NHS. I lead a Wednesday night bible study called “spots” where my two co-leaders and I pour into high school students. I have also lead the Hunt Middle School FCA for six years. FCA not only provides me with the opportunity to minister to children, but to be a mentor as well. I serve with my mother as a part of NCL at the Ronald McDonald House, Shoes for Orphan Soles, Sunrise Senior Center, and Frisco Family Services. Best buddies is a way for me to connect with the special education students in outings and holiday celebrations. I have played golf for two years, basketball for 12 years, and have loved every second of it. Lastly, NHS allows me to prove my classroom skills in a club and volunteer hours.
